Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)
Magic Life offers expertly tailored care and support for people with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), also known as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Our 24 hour supported living services offer homely and supportive environments that are focussed on the individual needs, preferences and aspirations of the people we support.
Known to be the most common type of personality disorder, people with EUPD often experience intense and fluctuating emotions. These range from euphoria to extreme anxiety, which can result in self-destructive behaviour. Our team have the experience and training to support people with EUPD, including those with a history of self-harm.
Our model of support for EUPD
Our 24 hour supported living services offer homely and supportive environments that are focussed on the individual needs and aspirations of the people we support. Supported living pathways enable us to work towards increasing independence, minimising risk and reducing support over time, with the ultimate goal of more independent living.
The support we offer is carefully tailored to each individual, allowing us to address specific offending behaviour and possible risks and implement positive behaviour support within outcome-focused timelines.
The importance of person-centred care for EUPD
As well as undertaking specialist training to meet the needs of the individuals we support, our teams have the experience required to identify and supprt those who may be approaching crisis. This includes creating person-centred support plans – including triggers and warning signs, current coping strategies a plan for when things escalate – for every individual.
We work extremely closely with outside agencies and local authorities to provide multi-disciplinary support, including local mental health teams and psychotherapists, resulting in a holistic approach to support provision. Our close-cluster model means that all of our North-London services are in close proximity, allowing us to be extremely responsive by uplifting staff numbers in times of crisis.
Transitioning to Magiclife from a secure setting
We understand that individuals with EUPD may struggle with attachments and building relationships, making the transition to a new care provider a very important time. We work very closely with every individual, their families, carers and health professionals, to ensure that we build a transition plan and care plan that meets their needs.
As part of this transition process, we will work with other care providers and community mental health teams to understand the strategies and approaches required to support every individual – for example, ensuring that DBT strategies and toolboxes continue to be used effectively.
Our Supported Living Pathways
Our services are tailored to an individual’s needs. It’s how we can most effectively encourage and empower individuals while providing all the support they need. Every individuals journey is underpinned by a comprehensive Support and Goal plan that they play an active role in defining.
