Building trust in relationships is not easy for some people. For some, social interaction is frightening and filled with danger. Providing a safe and non-judgemental environment is a key role of a supported living home. This important part of social care is highlighted at our home in Bruce Grove. Senior Support worker Rose Kirkpatrick along with her colleagues work hard to create a caring and supported environment which has seen Cheryl open up.
Cheryl has come a long way
Cheryl has come a long way since coming to Bruce Grove Villa in 2016. The transformation is night and day for Cheryl. When she first came to Bruce Grove Cheryl was filled with fear and mistrust and a near recluse confining herself to her room but this is a long distant memory. Cheryl now comes to the office to have chats with the staff. She asks to make phone calls which she never did before. Cheryl can now be seen laughing and dancing and enjoying her life at Bruce Grove villa.
This is no part an accident. This shift in trust is a result of the hard work by the team at Bruce Grove creating a safe environment for people like Cheryl to feel safe valued.
